The Art of Touch

Adjusting & Assisting in Yoga
A 1-day CPD for Yoga Teachers & Teachers in Training

Hands-on assisting can be a powerful, supportive, and skilful part of yoga teaching — and it’s also something many teachers have stepped away from in recent years. This one-day CPD offers a thoughtful, practical space to reconnect with the art of touch in a way that is ethical, consent-led, and confidence-building.

This day is designed to support you in reintroducing (or refining) hands-on techniques with clarity, sensitivity, and professionalism — grounded in real-world teaching contexts.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You’ve moved away from hands-on assists and would like the confidence to reintroduce them in a way that feels safe and appropriate

  • You want a supported environment to practise, receive feedback, and grow your confidence

  • Your training was largely online, or you’ve had limited opportunity to explore hands-on assisting in person

  • You’d like to expand your repertoire of physical cues and refine how and when you use them

  • You want to explore more complex or nuanced adjustments with peers rather than students

  • You’re interested in the emotional, physiological, ethical, and professional considerations around touch

  • You’d love to be back in a room with other yoga teachers — learning, sharing, practising, and having a bit of fun together

What we’ll explore:

Throughout the day we’ll look at best practice for using touch in contemporary yoga settings, including:

  • Ethics, boundaries, autonomy, and consent

  • Reading bodies, energy, and nervous system responses

  • Clear communication and choice for students

  • Teacher self-care, sustainability, and energetic boundaries

We’ll lay solid foundations for using touch effectively and safely — for both student and teacher — with an emphasis on confidence, clarity, and care.

A very practical day:

This is a hands-on, experiential training with plenty of time to practise and explore adjustments across a wide range of asana. You’ll work in pairs and small groups, with guidance, discussion, and reflection woven throughout.

There will also be space for you to bring specific postures or questions you’d like to explore beyond the planned material, so the day can meet the needs of the group.

By the end of the day, you can expect to leave with:

  • Greater confidence in using (or choosing not to use) touch

  • A clearer ethical and professional framework

  • Expanded practical skills and options

  • A deeper sense of ease, discernment, and integrity in your teaching

Spaces are limited to allow for plenty of personal attention, hands-on exploration, and peer learning. Expect to move, observe, question, reflect—and come away with tools and information you can immediately apply in your classes.
