LISA

A Yogi for 20 + years, I discovered yoga on my travels around the world in my early 20's. I chose to travel alone as at times I preferred my own company, quietly contemplating life and escaping from Trauma, I found so much healing in Yoga and Meditation. On my return I became a regular student at some well known studio's in London where my passion for yoga grew. It wasn't until much later though in 2009 just before I started a family, I decided to take my journey further and qualified in Vinyasa flow 200hr TT in Ibiza with Still flowing yoga teacher training.
As a teacher I'm always learning and am inspired by so many teachers. I continue all the time attending regular workshops and training so I can share the journey that yoga offers with all my students.

My style of teaching keeps growing and evolving over the years, every class I teach can be different, I can often wait and feel everyones energy and adapt classes to suit the mood, one week might be quite dynamic and flowing, another might be slower and more alignment approached, throwing in the odd longer held Yin pose or a longer guided meditation at the end..!! No session is the same. More recently I love theming my terms aound the different energy centres, body parts or the philosophy of yoga. Never forgetting I am forever the student of this wonderful way of life called Yoga.

I began my yoga journey over 10 years ago attending local classes, a few years later I really caught the yoga bug and started to explore my practice further. The stillness of my mind and the balance of energy flowing through my body after yoga and meditation intrigued me enough to delve deeper into the mind body spirit connection that my yoga practice was enabling me to achieve. This lead me to becoming a certified ‘mum and baby, toddler and children’s yoga’ teacher and have recently complete my 200hr yoga teacher training with Sandstone Yoga in Birmingham.
I’m passionate about teaching yoga and that the practice should be accessible to everyone. I believe yoga is a personal journey as unique as each individual practicing and an experience that can have many positive impacts not only physically but mentally too.
Over the years Yoga has been a constant companion in my life, through happiness, depression, stress and motherhood yoga and meditation have been my guides, weaving me their own path towards healing.
When you begin a yoga practice you begin a journey that doesn’t end, a story that you can write for yourself, you get to decide how yoga works for you and that’s why I personally love the practice so much. I’m always evolving, always learning, from both my teachers and my students. I look forward to meeting everyone very soon and I can’t wait to further my learning and teaching journey with you all at Lisa Valentine Yoga.

YOGA STYLES

Vinyasa is a sanskrit term often employed to describe a broad range of yoga styles. It symbolises a flowing, dynamic form of yoga.
 
Vinyasa flow is a fusion of various styles of yoga. The style concentrates on breath synchronised movement, one movement one breath creating a union between the two sides, energetic in ways and simply flowing creating a beautiful balance, leaving you feeling invigorated yet with a deep residing peace.
Our classes will lead you into a dance with your breath, body and mind.
In this style of yoga expect to work hard and get warm as we stoke the inner fires and send energy pulsating through the body.
Yoga has many healing benefits for your mind, body and soul.  Like all styles of yoga, Vinyasa has both mental and physical benefits. Physically, sweat expels toxins and re-energises your body. Mentally, the synchronised breathing relaxes your mind and helps to release any blockage of energy flow throughout your body.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a style of yoga practice that activates the connective tissues of the body in order to open restrictions physically and energetically. Using passive longer held postures the tissues of the body become more flexible and the energetic channels open.

Hatha/Hatha Flow

Hatha yoga can mean a lot of things. One widely-used definition of hatha is "movement," so any asana class is a hatha class. There is a subset of classes specifically labelled hatha, which is characterised by a focus on gentle asana without any flow between poses. Hatha is endlessly adaptable to each teacher's personal style and each student's needs. For that reason, it can be hard to generalise about. This Hatha yoga class can be for all levels, the classes will be typically gentle so also ideal for complete beginners, post natal ladies and gentlemen entering into the world of yoga.

Restorative Yoga

A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. Suitable for pregnant ladies especially for 3rd trimester.
When your life is racing full-speed ahead, so is your mind. Restorative yoga helps provide that physical and mental balance to prevent stress and anxiety, through the use of props that allow you to hold poses longer, giving you all the benefits of deep, passive stretching.
Most restorative practices are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.

Yin & Yang Flow

This class is a combination of Vinyasa flow and longer held yin yoga poses (see the different descriptions above).

Slow Flow

This class is ideal for complete beginners or those that prefer a slower paced class. Vinyasa flow is a fusion of various styles of yoga. The style concentrates on breath synchronised movement, one movement one breath creating a union between the two sides, energetic in ways and simply flowing creating a beautiful balance, leaving you feeling invigorated yet with a deep residing peace.

1-2-1 Yoga Therapy

These sessions are are tailor made for the individual, and are held in my tranquil home studio in Upper Boddington, Daventry, Northants.             They can be specifically designed to support certain aspects of your physical health, such as low back pain vulnerability, stiff shoulders and neck etc. Or they can have more of a focus on mental and emotional wellbeing to help you through an illness, or a combination of the two, as they are very often connected. The sessions can be spread out over weeks or months. Please do get in contact to discuss your options.

200hr Vinyasa Yoga , European Yoga Alliance certificate completed in 2009 with Still Flowing Yoga,  Pre and Post Natal yoga teacher, having completed my TT in Oct 2016 with Bliss Baby Yoga.
Mindful Yin Yoga course in February 2017 with Jennifer Raye, and a 50 hr TT Yin Yoga with Sarah Lo in October 2017. Restorative Yoga TT in 2018 with Bliss Baby Yoga.  Reiki 1st degree 2019.                                                         

I continue on a regular basis to attend inspirational workshops/CPDs and trainings with some fabulous senior yoga teachers, after all as a teacher we are always on a learning journey and I enjoy sharing this with my students and to develop my own practice and awareness.

Rebecca Ryder

Registered children’s yoga teacher with Yogakidz, 200hr yoga alliance, 2018 with Sandstone Yoga. Rebecca, like myself, regularly attends workshops/CPDs to support her own practice and teaching skills.

Currently training in Pre and Post Natal with Bliss Baby Yoga.
