I enjoyed this refreshing Lemongrass drink known as “Nam Ta Krai” at Jim Thompson House in Bangkok, sitting in the lovely garden on the banks of the Saen Saeb Canal.
Famous throughout Thailand for its amazing medicinal properties, lemongrass is commonly used in health, spas and hospitality. But I love it simply for its refreshing flavor. The health benefits being an added bonus.
This is my attempt at re-creating it!
Simply cut fresh lemongrass stems into 7cm bits, add fresh ginger and slightly smash with a heavy object. Boil with water and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve hot as tea or cold with crushed ice. Honey or brown sugar can be added if desired.
Add a lemongrass stalk to garnish and enjoy…
