Summer is well and truly with us and it is hot outside. I love the sunshine and I love nothing more than doing an early morning yoga stretch outside on my lawn, but, what about sleeping when the temperature hits 29c at night – yikes!
We all need sleep and when the temperature rises we often have limited or restless sleep, which then makes you feel groggy and lifeless in the morning, before the temperature rises once again. It is important to ensure you have a comfortable environment and more than ever we need a calming bedtime routine. When it is hot outside, keep your blinds down to stop the sun coming into the house, early evening open the windows to get some breeze flowing through.
In the winter we have a lovely warm bath or shower before bed, now it is time for that lovely cool shower, then dim the lights, make sure that your bed covers are cotton and spritz a soothing bedtime scent then download a white-noise app. By creating a calm mind and a calm space this will enhance our chances of a good night’s sleep.
Finally, remember to enjoy these beautiful warm, hot summer days, before we know they will be gone.
“A cheerful friend is like a sunny day, which sheds it brightness on all around” - John Lubbock
